Susan R.
Kotnik
To begin, I attended college
as an older student and graduated from University of Memphis, in Memphis
Tennessee, December of 1991, summa cum laude, with a thorough grounding
in fine art studies. My family and I lived there for 12 years, then moved
to Colorado Springs, where we've lived for 8 years now.
However, I have a wide range
of interests other than the visual arts. Too many! For instance, I consider
myself an amateur naturalist, with an emphasis on small animals. For many
years I've raised (for release) a number of species of butterflies and
moths. The wild silk moth species are my favorite among the lepidoptera,
and caterpillars can often be found munching happily along in cages in
my family room. Observing their life cycle closely has provided me with
insight and inspiration since I was a child wandering through our apple
orchard. You will notice the frequent appearance of insects and other
small animals in my art work!
My art background includes:
Sumi-e painting (on rice paper in the traditional styles), graphics (over
many years, from layout and design of printed media to illustration and
many areas in between), digital photo alteration, and gallery showings
(while in Memphis, Tennessee). I work mostly in 2 dimensional media, but
especially like watercolor, colored pencils, and often a combination of
the two.
If you don't see an example
of what you are looking for, contact me - I have experience in more topics
and media than it is possible to post on this site!
